braveONE was founded by a mom on a mission. When my daughter Bella was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I called her "brave" every single day. It was how we got through the tough moments, reminding both of us that she had strength, even on the hardest days. That word stuck.
One day, she looked at me and asked, “Why doesn’t Baelor get pokeys?” I didn’t know how to answer. As much as I love her, I will never fully understand what it’s like to live with T1D. But in that moment, I knew she shouldn’t have to go through it feeling alone. braveONE is my way of changing that. It’s for her, and for every kid who deserves someone who truly gets it.
I started braveONE because I wanted kids like Bella to have someone in their corner. Someone who really gets it. Not just a quick check-in, but real connection that lasts. A friend. A mentor. Someone to walk with them through all the highs and lows, literally.
But the truth is, I didn’t just start braveONE for her. I started it for me too. I needed to know there were adults living with T1D who weren’t just getting by, but living full, joyful lives. I wanted to see that, and I wanted Bella to see it too. To know that T1D doesn’t have to hold her back from anything.
We write braveONE as one word for a reason. It reflects unity. Togetherness. The idea that no one should have to face T1D alone.
“brave” honors the strength it takes to live with T1D every single day. “ONE” represents the power of one-on-one mentorship and the belief that we are stronger when we stand together.
Making it one word is our way of saying this is not a solo journey. We are in this together. We are braveONE.
